Once again, the United States has opened applications for the Diversity Visa (DV) Programme for the fiscal year 2025 as part of its ongoing efforts to diversify the immigrant population.
Popularly known as the Green Card Lottery, this program provides a unique chance for individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States to secure a visa.
However, for the fiscal year 2025, a total of 18 countries, including Nigeria, remain ineligible to participate in this opportunity.
The exclusion criteria are determined by the number of nationals from these countries who have immigrated to the United States in the past five years. Any country that has sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. within this timeframe is automatically disqualified from the DV Programme.
The list of countries not qualified for the 2025 US lottery program includes Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominica, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Venezuela, and Vietnam.
