List of Federal Government Agencies in Nigeria

Agencies of government are created to help in the implementation of government policies. They handle a different aspect of the implementation of government policies and they are accountable to the government.

Federal government agencies are often headed by director generals who spearhead the major projects of the agencies working with the budgets provided for in the annual national budgets execute their mandates.

They are over 500 federal government agencies in Nigeria and many of them are still obscure. Only a few of them are widely known among members of the public that they were created to serve 

Here is a list of some federal government agencies in Nigeria. 20 of them are listed below:

National Horticultural Research Institute

This agency is concerned with the growth of trees for various purposes. It also regulates the felling of trees across the country. It is popular for championing the fight against desertification in many states in the northern part of Nigeria.

Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria

In union with the Ministry of aviation in regulates the activities of airports in Nigeria

Nigerian Communication Commission

The NCC is concerned with the regulation of all forms of communication, especially through mobile means. Big telecom companies are accountable to the NCC on how they operate in the country.

Nigerian Television Authority

NTA is Nigeria’s official television station which covers national stories and government activities.

Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria

This agency especially monitors all public assets in the country and protects them from exploitation.

Bureau of Public Procurement

It monitors and investigates purchases done by all other parts of government and agencies to ensure transparency and rule of law.

Central Bank of Nigeria

CBN is the banker’s bank, the chief regulator of all financial institutions in Nigeria.

Federal Inland Revenue Service

FIRS help the government to generate revenue through taxation

National Pension Commission

The regulatory body for all pension fund administrators in Nigeria

Niger Delta Development Commission

It was created to help solve the problem of poverty and militancy in the Niger Delta region.
