The 2020/21 Premier League and EFL seasons are released a date to get underway
Premier League and EFL Fans have been expecting news of a fixture release date ever since the plan for the new campaign was confirmed.
The Covid-19 pandemic meant that last season was elongated, with the top flight finishing on July 26 and the EFL officially wrapping up after Fulham beat Brentford in the Championship play-off final on August 4.
The new season, however, will be much shorter with all the league and cup games crammed into a smaller window to ensure the season finishes by May to get the calendar back on track for the future.
Despite the Premier League and EFL seasons set to commence in a month there is still no word on the fixtures or even when they will be announced, but that is about to change.
GoldenNewsNg understands that fixtures for all four divisions in England will be released on the same day – Friday, August 21.
There is also the probability that some Championship clubs will kick-start their 2020/21 season slightly earlier than September, by playing their first round EFL Cup matches.

The difficulty for Championship clubs in the League Cup is the first round falls during the upcoming international break, with England due to play Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark on September 5 and 8 respectively.
Many clubs in the second tier are likely to have players away on international duty over those dates, which means clubs might be given the option of playing their first-round matches in the last week of August.
It could mean a competitive game as early as August 29 – two weeks before the league schedule gets underway.
The EFL have yet to release details of when the first round draw for the EFL Cup will take place.
Last season saw it take place the same day as when the EFL fixtures were released.
