1. Presidency  Reopens All Airports To Domestic Flights

The Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has ordered the reopening of all airports in Nigeria for domestic flights.

Speaking on Monday during a briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika said private airports and airstrips were now opened for commercial flights.

According to Sirika, all airports in Nigeria including those in Jalingo, Gombe, amongst others could restart operations.

He said, “Regarding approvals for flights within the country – domestic approvals.

All airports in Nigeria are now open for domestic flights. Private charter operations will no longer need approvals from us to operate within domestic airports in all government-approved airports and in all government-owned airports.

2. I Hope It Will Be The Last Time – Mailafia Speaks After Release By DSS

The embattled former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Obadiah Mailafia has been released by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Mailafia honoured a third invitation from the secret police when he showed up in their Jos office in Plateau State on Monday 14th September.

As earlier reported, Mailafia has been in the spotlight recently over his claims that a sitting Northern governor is the commander of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

Mailafia who arrived the DSS office around 11am together with his wife, Margaret, and his lawyer, Yakubu Bawa, among others, was not released until around 2.55 pm.

Speaking after his release, Mailafia told his growing supporters that his latest invitation was uncalled for and expressed hope that he won’t be summoned again.

He said, “Thank you all for being here. Many have said the worst things and nobody invited them. I hope this will be the last time I will be invited to the DSS office. All that I am saying is that the killings must stop.”

3. Trump Imposes Visa Ban On Kogi, Bayelsa Election Riggers

The United States Government has imposed a visa restriction on individuals for their actions surrounding the November 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa State elections.

In a statement on Monday signed by the spokesperson for the Department of State, Morgan Ortagus, the US also imposed ban on some people in the run-up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo State elections.

Although elections have not yet held in Edo and Ondo states, the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, imposed the visa restriction on these individuals due to their conduct in the run-up to the poll.

4. Drama As Justice Salami Orders Security Agents To Throw Out Magu’s Lawyers

Justice Ayo Salami, the head of the Presidential panel investigating the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, on Monday directed security operatives to walk out two lawyers Prof Zainab Duke Abiola and Mr Aliyu Lemu, from the venue of its sitting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The two lawyers are part of the legal team of the embattled EFCC boss, who is being probed by the Salami panel over alleged mismanagement of recovered assets and abuse of office.

Information gathered revealed that the drama started at about 11:50am, when Mr Wahab Shittu, who has been appearing for Magu, stood up to introduce other members of the legal team.

It was reported that Justice Salami interrupted Shittu and insisted that only him would be allowed to defend Magu.

The former President of the Court of Appeal thereafter directed armed security agents to bundle out the lawyers from the venue.

5. Military Arrests Notorious Arms Dealer With Over N2m, Police ID Card And Weapons

The Nigerian Military has revealed that troops of the Operation Sahel Sanity have arrested a major illegal arms dealer who specializes in getting arms for bandits.

The Military authorities made this known in a statement on Monday by Brigadier-General Benard Onyeuko, Acting Director Defence Media Operations.

The statement from the Defence Headquarters noted that the troops acted on credible intelligence which eventually resulted in the arrest of the illegal arms supplier named Usman Ibrahim from Ryom in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State.

The Military noted that the arrested suspect is a major illegal arms dealer supplying bandits in the North-West.

6. Drama As ASUU, NASU Lock Out LASU VC, Students

embers of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) on Monday stopped the Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State Univeristy (LASU), Prof Olanrewaju Fagboun and students from gaining access to premises.

reports has it  that the action was as a result of protest by the union members over non-payment of increment in salaries promised by the Lagos State Government.

The groups had vowed to frustrate any plan to resume if their demands were not met.

The drama started as early as 7 am as union members took over the entrance of the university campus at Ojo from security personnel and turned back both human and vehicular movements from going in and out of the premises.

All entreaties by the vice-chancellor to prevail on the protesters was not heeded.

7. Bandits Kill Two FRSC Officers, Abduct 10 Others

The Federal Road Safety Corps on Monday confirmed the killing of two operatives by bandits.

The Corps noted that ten other personnel were kidnapped when gunmen attacked their buses en route to the FRSC Academy in Udi, Enugu State.

The spokesperson of the Corps, Assistant Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem, confirmed the incident in a statement.

Kazeen noted that the operatives travelling from Sokoto and Kebbi States were ambushed and attacked at Udege junction, along Mararaban-Udege between Adoka, Nasarawa State, at about 8am.

The spokesman added that total of 26 officers were travelling in two buses.

One died during the attack, another died in the hospital, four were injured, eight escaped unhurt, and ten others kidnapped by the assailants.

8. ASUU Gives Update On Reopening Of Universities

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday give an update on the possibility of universities reopening across Nigeria.

The union noted that it will not reopen until the Federal Government honours the agreement it struck with the union.

The National President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, stated this while speaking at a town hall meeting at the African Hall, the University of Ilorin.

Ogunyemi in the statement noted that the agreement must be honoured, before the federal government makes any announcement on reopening of universities.

He further stated that the union would reveal its next agenda, if the government refuses to negotiate the 2009 agreement signed by both parties.

9. Boko Haram: Granting Amnesty To Insurgents Is Wrong – Ndume Tells FG

The Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Ali Ndume has cautioned the federal government over its policy of granting amnesty to insurgents.

Ndume noted that the current action by the federal government is unfair, adding that it can’t bring about the desired peace.

The Senator who spoke on Sunday in an interview with journalists in Abuja, warned that the insurgents didn’t apologize to the state or their victims before the government started giving them amnesty.

He called for more resources to be channelled towards resettling those displaced by the insurgents rather than on amnesty programmes for the ‘repentant criminals’.

10. AfDB: Obasanjo Hails Buhari Over Position On Adesina

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday, commended President Muhammed Buhari’s led Federal Government for the support given at ensuring successful re-election of the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina.

Obasanjo, in what appeared to be his first official reaction, since Adesina’s re-election penultimate week, also thanked some past and present African leaders for their supports during the period.

The former President made these disclosures when the leadership of the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), led by the National President, Comr. Desmond Nwachukwu paid him a courtesy call at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Pent House residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

Obasanjo who was responding to remarks made by the FIBAN President on the support given to Adesina, added that education played a vital role in the success so far made by him and other Nigerians doing the country proud in their different endeavour.

11. Police Arrest porn star for shooting on Sacred ground in Osun state

A filmmaker has been arrested for allegedly recording a pornographic movie at the Osun Osogbo scared grove in western Nigeria, police say.
The sacred forest, home to Osun, the Yoruba goddess of fertility, is a UN-designated World Heritage Site.
Police said the man, Tobiloba Jolaosho, popularly known as King Tblak HOC, was arrested for allegedly recording a “sex movie” in the forest.

Niger Senator donates 3 truck-load of fertilizers to Farmers in Niger

As part of efforts to boost agricultural activities in the State, the Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa has distributed three truckload of fertilizers worth millions of Naira to farmers in his constituency.

The farmers are drawn the nine local government areas under Niger East, which include Shiroro, Munya, Paikoro, Rafi, Suleja, Gurara, Chanchaga, Bosso and Tafa local governments.

The gesture according to Senator Mohammed Sani Musa is to boost agricultural activities, not just in those local government areas but Niger State as a whole. Read More Here.

13. Biafra : Nnamdi Kanu Mourns Victims Of Sept 13 Nigerian Military Siege

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu  a British Nigerian Biafra political activist. who is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Sunday remembered those affected by the September 13, 2017, military siege on his Afaraukwu country-home GoldenNewsNg Reports

The Soldiers laid siege and clashed with members of Kanu’s group leading to the alleged death of 15 persons – although, the self-exiled pro-Biafra leader put the number of deaths at 28.

A report on a credible Nigerian newspaper said at the time that the soldiers arrived in the community ‘barely 48 hours after the clash between them and IPOB members on a weekend evening’. Read More Here

Thousands  of Uber and Bolt drivers are protesting in the nation’s capital Abuja against their service providers.

The protesting drivers are calling for a review in charges for services, commissions, and proper profiling of users.

The drivers insist that charges for services in Abuja remain the lowest when compared with other cities in the country.

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has topped the Forbes list for highest-earning footballers in 2020.

Forbes estimated Messi’s yearly earnings at $126m (£97.2m) with Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo second on $117m (£90.3m).

Neymar was in third with Paris St-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe fourth.

Wolverhampton Wanderers scored twice in the first six minutes as they made a winning start to the new Premier League season with victory at Sheffield United.

Dominic Thiem staged a remarkable comeback to seal his first career Grand Slam title, as he fought back from two sets down to defeat Alexander Zverev 2-6 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-6 (8-6) in the final of the US open on Sunday.

The second seed had lost all three previous Grand Slam finals – twice to Rafael Nadal at the French open and Novak Djokovic in the Australian open earlier this year, but he finally got over the line in New York in special circumstances.
