1.Buhari signs new police law
President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law the Nigeria Police Bill, 2020.
president Buhari in a memo dated September 16, 2020, communicated his assent to the Bill to the National Assembly, through the Clerk of the legislature.
The Act repeals the Police Act Cap. P19. Laws of the Federation, 2004, and provides for a more effective and well organised Police Force, driven by the principles of transparency and accountability in its operations and management of its resources. Read More Here
2. Ondo Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi Speaks On Forming New Alliance With PDP To Defeat Akeredolu
The Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi has denied any plan to team up with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Eyitayo Jegede ahead of the 2020 governorship polls in the state.
Ajayi who is the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) said those promoting such rumours in the media are those paid to spread fake news by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
It will be recalled Ajayi who initially joined the PDP after decamping from the All Progressives Congress (APC), dumped PDP for ZLP after he lost out on the party’s 2020 governorship ticket.
While denying any plans to form a new alliance with Jegede and the PDP, the Deputy Governor said he is in the race to win and won’t be distracted by any cheap political propaganda.
Ajayi made his view known in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Babatope Okeowo.
3. Benin City In Festive Mood Ahead Of Edo Governorship Election
Barely 24 hours to the Edo Governorship Election, the atmosphere on the streets in Benin City, the state capital, is electric.
Security has been deployed in several parts of the city ahead of the contest.
It is evident that an important event is impending.
For instance, the road that leads to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), where the sensitive materials that would be used for the election are being kept, has been cordoned off with traffic restricted to one part of the road. Read More here
4. Wale Babalakin Resigns As UNILAG Pro-Chancellor
University of Lagos Pro-Chancellor, Wale Babalakin, has resigned from his position.
This is coming after the alleged disagreement with the federal government’s visitation panel sent to the university.
Recall that he was recently replaced with John Momoh.
Babalakin said there were too many vested interests in the UNILAG leadership issue.
His letter of resignation was addressed to the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, and copied to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Babalakin in the letter appreciated President Buhari for giving him the opportunity to serve as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lagos from May 2017.
5. Edo 2020 : Soldiers, police, others in show of force
Following the Edo 2020 election , Scores of soldiers and other security officials on Thursday embarked on a massive show of force on the streets of Benin City ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.
The combined exercise tagged ‘Inter Agencies Show of Force’ is to alert Edo residents of the security agencies’ preparedness for the governorship election.

6. Edo 2020 : INEC commences distribution of sensitive materials
Following the Edo 2020 election, there was tight security around Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Benin City for the better part of Thursday which caused gridlock at Ring Road, the City Centre and adjoining roads including Airport road, Sokponba road, Sapele road, Akpakpava road and others.

1. Havertz says he’s not worried about how much he cost
Chelsea’s £71m midfielder Kai Havertz says he does not feel burdened with how much he cost and is “very excited” to learn from manager Frank Lampard.
Havertz joined the Blues from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month, having also been linked with Real Madrid.
“In football today it’s normal to pay these prices,” said the 21-year-old.
“I will not put a lot of pressure on myself because I think I’m not doing the worst things in the past – that’s why the price tag was high.”

Premier League clubs have urged the UK government to stick to its proposal of allowing fans to return to stadiums from 1 October.
The government has restricted sporting events to 1,000 spectators and is reviewing its initial target date of when more fans could attend venues.
