Former presidential aspirant Patrick Utomi has described President Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu, and other politicians across various party lines as a terrible mistake to Nigeria.
Speaking at the 26th Annual Pre-Ramadan Lecture held in Lagos, Utomi stated that Nigeria’s politics is annoying.
“The calibre of people who became politicians in Nigeria is a terrible mistake for our country. People have traveled from citizenship to idiocy,” the economics professor said.
“Nigeria is traveling in the wrong direction. This is really the problem. The gap between us and them is pushed in this emotional pulse,” Utomi was quoted to have said by Punch.
“We seem to stumble from crisis to crisis. In Nigeria, everything you say that seems to be structured, people dismiss it. They say, ‘Na grammar we go chop?’
“They forgot that every action starts from a theory. But this anti-intellectual disposition, not thinking, make us create mountains in a small manhole and put our country in a state of permanent crisis.
“We seem unable to have a rational conversation. Nigeria politics irritates, annoys me because it is not dealing with issues people are dealing with.”
Meanwhile, elder statesman Tanko Yakasai has said President Muhammadu Buhari lacks the capacity to solve different problems facing the country.
In an interview with Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, Yakasai said President Buhari acks the capacity to better the lives of Nigerians and deliver his promises made during the 2019 general elections.
Yakasai noted that electing Buhari as president of the country is the greatest mistake made by Nigerians in recent times.
The elder statesman added that his opposition to President Buhari would not translate to endorsement for those calling for the balkanization of the country.
Yakasai, however, opined that there would be more problems for the various component parts if they break awa.
