Foreign Law Firms Set to Defend Abba Kyari
GoldenNewsNg gathered that A group identified as the Concerned Advocates for Good Governance has contacted three law firms in the United States to defend Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, who was indicted by the FBI over alleged shady dealings with Hushpuppi.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the President-General of the group, Olusegun Bamgbose, on Wednesday.
Bamgbose, in his statement, claimed that the suspended head of the IGP Intelligence Response Team remains innocent of the allegations levelled against him until proven otherwise.
He called on Nigerians to rally support for “one of the finest cops Nigeria has ever produced”.
According to the President of the group, contact with the U.S-based law firms whose names were not revealed is part of efforts of the group to ensure justice for the embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police if eventually extradited to America.
He called on the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police not to be moved by the allegations leveled against Kyari as he would be cleared of all the allegations.
He wrote, “We have diligently consulted with about three notable law firms in the United States to give us their legal opinions on what can be done to formidably defend Abba Kyari.”
“One of the leading firms has replied to us and gone ahead to send us the indictment against Abba Kyari and other details which is about 26 pages.”
“The reputable law firm, well-grounded on extradition issues, has assured us of their readiness to represent Kyari’s interest before and after his possible extradition to the U.S.”
He, however, stated that the group is not out to cover up corruption, but that fairness and justice should not be denied in this case.
Meanwhile, GoldenNewsNg gathered that police chief Abba Kyari has deleted his infamous Facebook update in which he responded to his indictment in the United States with claims that he was only rendering tailoring services to notorious fraudster Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas.
