IPOB vs FG: Nnamdi Kanu Trial Continues At The Federal High Court Abuja
GoldenNewsNg gathered that the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will today continue is trial before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has on behalf of the federal government, filed a seven-count amended charge against Nnamdi Kanu.
The charges border on treasonable felony and acts of terrorism.
Recall that the Biafra leader was reportedly rearrested in Kenya and extradited back to Nigeria on the 27th of June, 2021.
The secessionist was then arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako who ordered his remand in the custody of the DSS until his next trial date which is July 26 and 27.
The DSS however failed to produce the Biafra activist in court on the said date citing logistics reasons, hence the postponement of trial to today.
As at 08:00 leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja amidst tight security.
The IPOB leader was brought to the Court in a black Sports Utility Vehicles at about 8am.
Kanu is expected to face charges of Terrorism and Treasonable felony today.

British Envoy, Ex-Anambra Gov Arrive In Court For Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial
Ahead of the commencement of the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, a British official in Nigeria has arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The former governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, also arrived at the court to witness the court sitting.
The British envoy arrived at the court around 8:03 am in a white Toyota Highlander, while Ezeife arrived in the company of Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
The secessionist was then arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako who ordered his remand in the custody of the DSS until his next trial date which is July 26 and 27.
The DSS however failed to produce the Biafra activist in court on the said date citing logistics reasons, hence the postponement of the trial to today.
Kanu, who holds British citizenship, is facing charges of treasonable felony and terrorism levelled against him by the Federal Government.
Nnamdi Kanu’s Family, Journalists Denied Access To Court
Security operatives have denied journalists access to the courtroom to cover the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
According to Naija News some lawyers, civil society groups and family members of the accused who were at the court were denied access to the courtroom by the operatives stationed at the entrance of the Ministry of Justice building.
According to the security agents, only accredited judiciary reporters would be allowed in, however, even accredited journalists were searched before gaining entrance into the premises.
Reacting, an activist, Deji Adeyanju, said: “At least even under military rule journalists would be given access to the courts.
“Members of the general public could also access the court. But today the reverse is the case. It is most unfortunate and unbelievable that this is supposed to be a democracy.
“Basically Nigerians should know that the President Muhammad Buhari regime has suspended the Constitution and we are practicing military rule in the country.”
Earlier, policemen and soldiers had taken over the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja today ahead of the trial of the IPOB leader.
Operatives of the Department of State Security Services, DSS were also seen in the premises guarding every entrance to the court and the streets leading to the court building.

Hoodlums have beat Sowore mercilessly at Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial.
GoldenNewsNg reports that the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, was attacked by suspected hoodlums at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday.
Sowore was denied access into the court by the security operatives. But as he was still talking to the security men, some boys numbering about 20, it was observed arrived.
Their presence was noticeable in the confusion because they looked unkempt.

It seemed clear that the people were there for trouble.
But to the surprise of everyone, the security agents kept quiet.
Immediately the suspected hoodlums descended on Sowore, slapping and punching him.
To the surprise of everyone, the security agents just looked on but intervened after shouting from those present by holding Sowore back.

However the hoodlums after attacking Sowore left without being apprehended by the security agents.
This led to another outrage as people around demanded they must be arrested.
The members of the public then chased the hoodlums to apprehend them as the security operatives looked on.
When the situation got rowdy, the security operatives intervened and held a couple of them.
The response of the security agents caused speculation that the hoodlums were backed by the government.
Before the incident, Sowore said: “A court room is not complete except people are there to witness proceedings. I want to sit right in front of the judge and witness it all.
“They have assured us that Kanu will get justice. He is my friend and I should be here. But the security agencies are still not allowing me in.”
After the situation with the hoodlums, the security operatives got hostile and attacked everyone including journalists.
They hit some reporters with sticks and pushed some.
The security agents threatened to break the cameras of some journalists and other people recording the situation.
They even forced some people to delete their videos and photos.
They chased everyone away from the vicinity of the courts expect a few journalists who refused to leave.
Even after identifying themselves as journalists, they remained hostile and continued to threaten.

According to report gathered , When the charges were read to him, the IPOB leader pleaded ‘not guilty’.

That you Nnamdi Kanu, male adult of Afaraukwu lbeku Umahia North Local Government Area of Abia State being the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on diverse dates in 2014 and 2015 in London, United Kingdom, did broadcast on Radio Biafra monitored in Enugu and other areas within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, preparations made by you and others now at large for states in the South-East and South-South zones and other communities in Kogi and Benue States to secede from the Federal Republic of Nigeria with a view to constituting same into the Republic of Biafra and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 41(c) of the Criminal Code Act, CAP. C77, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Count two
That you Nnamdi Kanu, male, adult, of Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, on or about the 28th April, 2015 in London, United Kingdom did broadcast on Radio Biafra monitored in Enugu, Enugu State and other parts of Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, referred to Major General Muhammadu Buhari, GCON, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a paedophile, a terrorist, an idiot and an embodiment of evil, knowing same to be false and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C. 77, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

That you Nnamdi Kanu, male adult of Afaraukwu lbeku Umahia North Local Government Area of Abia State between the month of March and April 2015 imported into Nigeria and kept in Ubulusiuzor in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, a Radio transmitter known as TRAM 50L concealed in a container of used household which you declared as used household items and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 47 (2) of the Criminal Code of Act, Cap C45, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

That you Nnamdi Kanu, male, adult. of Afaraukwu iIbeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State in London, United Kingdom between 2018 and 2021 Radio Biafra monitored in Enugu, Enugu State and FCT, Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, professed to be a member of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a proscribed organisation in Nigeria and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 16 Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013.

That you Nnamdi Kanu, male, adult, of Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State on the 22nd of April, 2021 in London, United Kingdom on Radio Biafra monitored in Enugu, Enugu State and other parts of Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did an act of terrorism in that you incite the other members (followers) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB}, a proscribed organisation in Nigeria, to look for security personnel, their family members through a Radio Biafra on 102.1FM monitored through the IPOB Community Radio and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 1 (2) (h) of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act.
Count six
That you Nnamdi Kanu, male, adult, of Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia Stale on the 16th of May, 2021, in London, United Kingdom within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did commit an act in furtherance of an act of terrorism by making a broadcast that “In 2 weeks’ time, what will happen will shake the world, people will die, the whole world will stand still, mark my word” and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 1 (2) (b) of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013.

That you Nnamdi Kanu, male, adult, of Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State on the 31st of May, 2021, in London, United Kingdom within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did an act in furtherance of an act of terrorism by issuing a deadly threat that anyone who flouted your sit-at-home order should “write his/her will,” as a result banks, schools, markets, shopping malls, fuel stations were not opened for businesses and vehicular movements grounded and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 1 (2) (b) of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act, 2013
IPOB’s Nnamdi Kanu Terrorism Case Adjourned To November 10
The case of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been adjourned to November 10, 2021.
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had postponed the case.
