Since the news went out that Sylvester Oromoni, a student of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, who died from injuries he allegedly sustained from the beating by his colleagues that wanted him to join their secret cult group,  Dowen College owned by Olumide Phillips has been in the center of the storm. Many people have pondered who owns this opulent institution.

Early Life & Education

On July 28, 1945, Dr. Olumide Phillips was born. He went to Lagos Methodist Boys’ High School (1959-1963). He studied for his upper school certificate at Igbobi College Lagos, where he excelled in Physics, Chemistry, and Pure and Applied Mathematics.

Professional Career

Dr. Phillips was a Mobil Scholar at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he graduated with a B.Sc Hons in Mechanical Engineering in 1970. Olumide began his engineering career as an apprentice with BP Oil Nigeria for 20 months before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in September 1967 to study Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Phillips worked for six months at Dunlop Nigeria Ikeja before joining Gulf Oil Nigeria as a Petroleum Engineer in January 1971. Olumide was exposed to all aspects of petroleum engineering at Gulf Oil, including reservoir engineering, production engineering, drilling and well site engineering, as well as geological and geophysical subsurface studies.

Dr. Phillips began his postgraduate studies in petroleum and natural gas engineering at Pennsylvania State University in January 1973. In August 1974, he earned his master’s degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering. In May 1976, he became the first person to receive a Ph.D. with dual titles in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering and Operations Research.

His research interests include Reservoir Modeling and Simulation, Geological Modeling, Enhanced Oil Recovery, Thermal Recovery, Complex Linear Flow Models, 3 dimensional 3-phase flow in subsurface porous media and pipes, Petroleum Compositional Simulation, Queuing Models, Optimization techniques, linear and complex flow models, and Mathematical Programming.

During his postgraduate study, Dr. Olumide Phillips worked as a research and teaching assistant, as well as a consultant on a number of advanced projects.

Regardless of his finances, he is the type of parent who makes certain that his children receive the best education possible. We’ve been told that all of his children attend top-tier universities outside of Nigeria.

Mr. Phillips has a total of five children with his wife: one son and four girls, but only Lami Philips is known to the public.

Dr. Olumide Phillips has worked for this company for over ten years, providing educational advice. Omatek Ventures PLC is a computer product distributor and service provider. Casings, keyboards, speakers, PCs, laptops, and servers are all manufactured by the company. The only objective of Omatek is to create computers that will aid in E-learning in schools. He has a scholarship program for the underprivileged and needy as a way of giving back to the community. Over the years, he has been a strong supporter of others.
