GoldenNewsNg report that the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has once again announced a $100,000 grant opportunity for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria and Africa in general.

This new grant project was developed by the United States with the goal of improving small company growth in Nigeria and other African countries.

ASBC is a business accelerator that supports SMEs with loans ranging from USD$100,000 to USD$1 million and offers technical assistance (TA) and grants up to USD$100,000. ASBC targets SMEs in sub-Saharan African countries within the agriculture, food security, healthcare, and education sectors, as well as water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) with special consideration to SMEs that tackle the climate crisis and address gender equity considerations through their work.

ASBC assists its partners with capital/grants, mentoring, training, and TA to help them develop their business models, strengthen their management skills, expand their market reach, and deepen their impact.

What can ASBC offer to your business?

  • Debt investments up to USD$1 million
  • Grant capital up to USD$100,000
  • Intensive mentoring and training programs
  • Targeted technical assistance (e.g., technology)
  • Network of impact investors
  • Impact first, catalytic partner (no dilution or claims on IP)

Requirement for the  MSME Grant for Nigerians

ASBC seeks to partner with for-profit businesses that are registered locally and majority African-owned. Ambitious, full-time management teams with a clear vision and that are driven to grow their business and deepen their social impact are ideal candidates. Businesses must have at least two years of operations and be revenue positive with a scalable product/service.

3.How do I apply to ASBC?

Start by answering the following questions:

  • Are you a small business operating in at least one of these countries: Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Uganda, Nigeria?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Is your business in one of the following sectors: agriculture & food security, education, healthcare, and water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH)?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Does your business have a social impact mission?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Have you been actively engaged in running this or other businesses in Africa for 2 or more years?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Does your business have a written accounting procedure manual?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Do you have financial management accounts for the business for the last 2 years?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Do you operate a bank account for the business transactions?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Is your business formally registered/incorporated according to local laws?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Does your business have majority African ownership?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Does your business have any women in senior positions in the company (management or board)?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Are you seeking debt capital for growth?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Do you have enough assets and equity to support a loan of USD $100,000 or more?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Are you struggling to obtain adequate funding from local banks or other investment partners?
    – You need to select right option-
  • Do you need technical support with the development of your business model, product, management training, or other key areas of your business?

4. Fill in the other parts of the form by answering the questionnaire on the form.

5. Click ‘Submit’
