Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare, the PDP’s candidate for governor of Zamfara State, has been confirmed as the legitimate candidate for the 2023 general election by the Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division.
Goldennewsng reports that the decision of the Federal High Court in Gusau, the state capital, that had earlier declared Dare’s primary election victory null and void was overturned by the Appeal Court.
Remember that the Federal High Court invalidated the PDP’s governorship primary in November 2022, which resulted in Dare becoming the party’s candidate.
According to the Daily Post, the state court has disqualified Dare’s candidacy for the second time.
In its judgment, the Federal High Court also stated that the PDP would not be fielding a candidate for the aforementioned position in the upcoming state election.
It may also be recalled that, in September 2022, the court annulled the primary that had previously elected Lawal-Dare as a result of a lawsuit filed by Ibrahim Shehu and two other candidates challenging the primary’s credibility.
Lawal-Dare won the rerun of the party’s governorship primary in the state, despite the court’s ruling that it should be held again.
