2023 Election: PDP’s Strategy Is To Get Back Northern State

The Special Adviser to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has said that the party is now adopting ‘northern strategy’ to reclaim its national spread.

GoldenNewsNg reports that Chidoka, who disclosed this in an interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, said the party will win the presidential election despite battling internal crisis.

He said, “PDP has been going through various metamorphosis. In 1999, PDP was basically made up of middle belt, south east and south south but south west was out of the PDP and some north eastern and north western states voted ANPP.

“In 2003 that changed, PDP became south west, south east, south south, middle belt and some northern states.

“By 2011 the country was divided into two, PDP became southern party so to say losing key northern states in the presidential elections and in 2015 we lost to APC.

“So what we have now in PDP is what I call the northern strategy, restoring PDP as the national platform, across its base in south east, south south and take it to the north again. Without taking back north into the PDP, we won’t be able to remain a national platform.

“So what you see today is mechanism of doing that and this is not the first time a political party has done that globally. The Republican Party in the US at one point had to bring what it called southern strategy.

“So what we have in Nigeria today is, that northern strategy gives us ability to win back north into the fold of PDP but not at the expense of losing our base, so it’s that conversation that is going in PDP.”
