Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor, has been accused of being sponsored by Governor David Umahi. Additionally, Umahi has stated that it is not the responsibility of the Ebonyi south and central senatorial zones to select the state’s next governor.

Goldennewsng reports that Umahi made the observation that he would rather support Senator Obinna Ogba, who represents the Ebonyi Central zone and ran on the PDP ticket in Ebonyi, than Ifeanyi Odii, who is from the same Ebonyi South zone as him.

Shortly after the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, paid a visit to the governor’s hometown of Umunnaga Uburu community, Ohaozara LGA of the state, the governor made this disclosure in a statement that was signed and made available to journalists by his Special Assistant on Media and Strategy, Chooks Oko.

Umahi claims that: It is incorrect to assert that AnyiChuks is a tool in our hands. Assuming they know the assault I face consistently, they won’t say that.

He stated, “If I were to support, I would prefer Obinna Ogba, who came from a tiny constituency, rather than a man who jumped out of nowhere and tossed his money around.”

However, he claimed that it was the responsibility of Ebonyi North to select the next governor and urged stakeholders in Ebonyi South to resist the temptation to support any governorship candidate from the region.

In addition, the Governor urged the public to back the APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who is from the Ebonyi North senatorial zone. He emphasized that the state should allow zoning and power rotation to maintain peace and order.
He added: ” the problem with zoning; We need power rotation so that the state can be peaceful.

Umahi stated, “So, we will disgrace with our votes, anyone from the South coming out to contest for governor in 2023.”
