President Muhammadu Buhari, the most powerful man in Nigeria, discussed the role that INEC will play in the elections in 2023.

Goldennewsng reports that he asserts that there is no reason for the Independent National Electoral Commission to be unprepared for the upcoming elections.

In a recent statement, INEC stated that the country had witnessed at least 52 instances of electoral violence in 22 states in a single month.

The chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, stated on Friday that the 2023 elections may not go as planned if the attacks on the commission’s offices continue.

He said the commission was putting forth attempts to recuperate basic political decision materials obliterated including PVCs however would require help.

Yakubu had stated, “The commission may find it increasingly difficult to recover in good time for the election if such attacks continue at the pace at which they are happening now.”

He stated, “INEC is prepared because I made sure they were given all the resources they requested because I don’t want any excuses that the government denied them funds.”
