Elder Wole Oyelese, a former Minister of Power and Steel, has stated that he cannot be on the same podium as some G5 governors.
Goldennewsng reports that this was made public on Saturday by Oyelese, who serves as the primary patron of all Oyo State support groups for PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
Our correspondent learned that the PDP’s G5 governors were in Ibadan on Thursday for the start of Governor Seyi Makinde’s re-election campaign.
Oyelese explained that because he is a leader of the PDP and wants Atiku to win the presidential election in 2023, it would be wrong for him to be with G5 governors who have decided not to work for Atiku’s success.
Oyelese claimed that the reason he decided not to attend the ceremony was to avoid sharing the podium with the five governors.
Given the current attitude of the G5 governors toward the party and its presidential candidate, Oyelese stated in a statement that was made available to DAILY POST that he would not be appropriate to attend such a gathering.
He did, however, commend the party’s chiefs, one of whom was the state’s former Deputy Governor. Hazeem Gbolarumi, Femi Babalola, Wale Adegoke, Majekodunmi Aborode, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide, Bola Doherty, Professor Abiodun Rauf, and Chief Segun Oyewole for making the recent freedom walk for Atiku in Ibadan a success.
He said that the march was the first of its kind and that everyone who took part, including the support groups and the good people of the state who showed up in thousands, made it successful.
“It is believed that the G5 Governors are still shopping for an alternative presidential candidate whom they hope to use to frustrate our aspiration to produce the next President of Nigeria,” Oyelese stated. Elder Oyelese stated, “Atiku’s Presidency is God’s own project, and this unpatriotic dream will not materialize.”
“Yes, I did not attend Governor Makinde’s re-election ceremony, nor did other people in the state who work for Atiku Abubakar. I don’t have any personal animosity toward Governor Makinde, but it would still be morally wrong for me to be in a location where G5 governors who haven’t announced their support for Atiku are being honored.
“At this crucial time, the most important task is to ensure that we significantly increase the number of votes cast for Atiku in the 2023 election compared to the number of votes cast for him in Oyo State in 2019 despite the fact that he still won.” Additionally, we intend to sweep Oyo state away from Atiku. We want him to win in the state and across Nigeria to become the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
