
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has called on Journalists across the country to remain unwavering in the discharge of their duties ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
Making this call during a familiarization visit on the leadership of various Media Houses in Niger State, the Chairman, CAN Niger State Chapter, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna disclosed that 2023 general elections is a critical period for Nigeria.
According to him “since my emergence as the Chairman, myself, the executive members and the entire Christendom have enjoyed tremendous support and coverage from the media. As a religious Body, we have enjoyed superlative relationship and we want that to continue.

“As you already know, we are in a critical period of our nation’s history, even as insecurity of lives and properties linger, and with the 2023 general elections approaching, we urge the Media to remain resolute in your reportage”.
“I urge the media to adhere strictly to professionalism with responsible journalism that will enable the electorates to make informed choices among the candidates contesting various elective positions”.
While soliciting for more synergy and cooperation between CAN and Journalists, Most Rev. Yohanna who is the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese thanked the Media for their unflinching support and coverage accorded the State CAN.
He further called on the Niger State Government to engage more workers saying “I want to use this opportunity to call on the State Government to hasty the employment of more Journalists, and of course engage more staff into other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)”.
Responding, the Chapel chairman, Com. Mustapha Bina thanked CAN team led by the Chairman, Most Rev Yohanna for the visit, assuring the body of adequate media coverage of their activities in the state.
Earlier, the General Manager Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Manir Badamasi Atiku, the General Manager, Radio Niger, Kabiru Ibrahim, Acting Managing Director Newsline Newspapers, Mohammed Mohammed, the Acting General Manager, Niger State Television (NSTV), Yunusa Bagudu, the Executive Director Badeggi Radio, Shuaibu Badeggi, General Manager Ultimate FM, Mrs Celine Moses Alkali and management staff of Prestige FM.
The CAN leadership visited various Media Houses which include: Correspondents’ Chapel, NTA, Radio Niger, Newsline, Prestige FM, Ultimate FM, Badeggi Radio and the State owned NSTV.
