Objectives of the Internship Program
The AfDB Internship Program is an integral component of a broader Talent Management Framework designed to support the Bank in achieving its Ten-Year Strategy (2023 – 2032) and the High 5s agenda. The program aims to accomplish the following objectives:
- Provide students with valuable professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
- Cultivate a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.

Requirements for AfDB Internship Program
To be eligible for the AfDB Internship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age Requirement: Must have attained the age of majority in their country of nationality or origin and be not more than Thirty (30) years old at the time of commencement of the internship program.
- Enrollment: Currently enrolled in a master’s level degree program in a recognized public or private educational institution of higher learning.
- Timing: Applicants can apply for an internship within one (1) year of obtaining such a degree.
- Nationality: Nationals of the member Countries of the African Development Bank.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in at least one of the Bank’s two working languages (English or French).
- Skills: Proficient in using the Bank’s standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); knowledge of SAP is desirable.
Fields of Study: Interns are selected from fields of study within the job families of the Bank, including but not limited to Economics, Agriculture, Private Sector Development, Human Capital Development, Environment, Finance, Infrastructure Development, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Communications, Law, Internal Audit, Budget, and Governance.
Selection Process and Terms
- Duration: Internships are granted for a period not less than three (3) months and not more than six (6) months.
- Remote or On-Site: Interns may perform their internship remotely or on-site, depending on the needs of their respective hiring units.
- Travel: On-site interns are responsible for their air travel to and from the Bank’s location as well as their upkeep.
- Medical Insurance: Eligible interns receive medical insurance coverage paid by the Bank during the internship period.
- Stipend: Eligible interns are provided with a monthly stipend.
- Duration and Timeline: The Bank conducts two (2) internship sessions per year. This announcement pertains to session 2, commencing in July 2024.
