FG Announces Plan to Train 1m Nigerians on Technical Skills
During his campaign, President Bola Tinubu made a commitment to generate millions of jobs and alleviate poverty. In alignment with this vision, Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, has unveiled a strategy to train one million Nigerians in technical proficiencies. The aim is to equip Nigerian youths with the necessary skills to attain meaningful employment opportunities.
In pursuit of this objective, the Federal Government has articulated plans to facilitate the training of a million Nigerians in technical fields by the year 2025. Dr. Bosun Tijani shared this development on his official X account following discussions with technology stakeholders regarding the approach to attain this ambitious goal.
Dr. Tijani emphasized that this technical training initiative corresponds with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fostering the creation of one million jobs within the technology sector during the initial 24 months of his administration.
In a statement, the minister conveyed:
“Today, my team and I engaged with key technology stakeholders to collaboratively devise innovative methods for fulfilling Mr. President’s objective of training one million technical talents.
“This marks the inception of a series of interactions within the ecosystem, aimed at soliciting optimal solutions from within.
“As we make strides towards the target of empowering one million individuals with technical skills by 2025, we welcome your insights into how you can participate.”
Additionally, he underscored the significance of investing in the ICT domain and the digital economy, highlighting their potential to invigorate local industries, elevate competitiveness, boost productivity, and equip millions of Nigerians with fresh proficiencies, thereby generating enduring employment and wealth-creation prospects.
This recent announcement from the minister builds upon his earlier revelation that the Federal Government has secured a $500 million loan earmarked for a domestic funding program, as reported by Punch. During a gathering with a representative from the World Bank, Dr. Bosun Tijani elucidated:
“We have acquired access to approximately five hundred million dollars to initiate local funding.”
He further elaborated that this endeavor aims to invigorate innovation and entrepreneurial endeavors within Nigeria’s digital sector.
