A prominent 96 years old elder statesman from Daura, Katsina state, Alhaji Sani Zango Daura has flouted a court order refraining him from ejecting a tenant from a landed property.
Findings have it that, the nonagenarian has properties spread across Kaduna, Abuja and other cities.
In the court order dated 23rd May, 2024 from the Wuse Zone 6 Magistrate Court, Abuja before his Worship, Hon. Emmanuel Iyanna with Motion no.: MN/157/2024 was served to the nonagenarian.
The notice read in part: “an order interim injunction restraining the defendant, their agents, privies or any other person acting for or on behalf of the defendants from continuing forcefully removing and ejecting the claimant from the property being No 19 Idris Koko street, Jahi district Abuja pending the hearing of the motion on notice.”
The order of a court, no matter how “small” the court is in your view, must be respected.
According to an eyewitnesswho gave his name as Yahaya, “the courts are the only saving grace from anarchy. If there were no courts, so many people would be leaving like slaves in this country”.
It was gathered that, he gave the undeveloped plot of land in Abuja to an Architect, Sulaiman Sarki to keep his heavy duty equipment at an agreed rent of N3.5million. However, after a year, he increased the rent to N8.5million
The eyewitness stated further that, while doing back and forth on the rent increment, the nonagenarian resorted to self help, took laws into his hand, sent people to the yard, demolished a part of the fence and started throwing out the equipment of the tenant in connivance with some off duty policemen.”
The Architect approached the court and to forestall anarchy and prevent lawlessness, the court gave an order stopping the elder statesman from further action which was served on the elder statesman “personally” and was received by him.
Ignoring the court order, Alhaji Zango, on the next day got Federal Road Safety Pay loader Truck to continue his self help.
