NASIMS Provides Updates on NPower Pending Payments as of November 25, 2023

In a recent communication from the National Social Investment Management System (NASIMS), fresh details have emerged regarding the ongoing efforts to address the issue of unpaid stipends for exited graduate beneficiaries of the NPower scheme. This update comes at a crucial time, with concerns and appeals for timely payments growing among the affected individuals.

The NASIMS update underscores the commitment of Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, in resolving the challenges related to payment. The N-Power scheme, initiated by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2016, aimed to combat youth unemployment and foster entrepreneurship.

Recognizing the outstanding stipends owed to beneficiaries, NASIMS issued an appeal for patience through the official NPower channels. The scheme, spanning various sectors such as education, agriculture, health, and tax, has played a pivotal role in providing employment opportunities for Nigerian youth.

Structured into batches, with Batch A commencing in 2016 and Batch B in August 2018, the NPower program has had over 500,000 beneficiaries. The first two batches were disengaged in 2020, and the third and final batch before the scheme’s temporary suspension in October 2023 was inaugurated in 2021.

NASIMS assured beneficiaries that both Betta Edu and Akindele Egbuwalo, the N-Power National Programme Manager, are actively working to resolve the payment issues. A recent statement from NASIMS via its Twitter handle reads, “Hello. Please note that the honorable minister and the program manager are currently working towards the resolution of payment. We plead for your kind patience. Thank you and best regards.”

Earlier reports indicated that the Federal Government, through the national program manager, Egbuwalo, had announced plans to commence the payment of the 9-month stipend backlog to N-Power beneficiaries in November 2023.
