On Thursday,4th May, 2024, President Bola Tinubu named six new executive directors within the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, both falling under the purview of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. The announcement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new executive directors in agencies under the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.’ In the Nigerian Ports Authority, Vivian Edet was appointed as Executive Director for Finance and Administration, Olalekan Badmus as Executive Director for Marine and Operations, and Ibrahim Umar as Executive Director for Engineering and Technical Services.
Jibril Abba was appointed as Executive Director for Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services at NIMASA, while Mr. Chudi Offodile assumed the role of Executive Director for Finance and Administration, and Fatai Adeyemi took on the position of Executive Director for Operations. The President, Bola Tinubu, granted approval for these appointments with the firm belief that the newly appointed individuals would promptly and effectively fulfill their collective mandate. The aim is to create favorable conditions that will significantly elevate the contribution of the Marine and Blue Economy sector to the nation’s GDP.
President Tinubu expressed expectations that the new appointees would play a crucial role in transforming the Nigerian economy into a labor-intensive and inclusive one.
