Common Reasons for Nigerians Moving to Germany:

  1. Study: Pursuing higher education.
  2. Work: Seeking employment opportunities.
  3. Tourism: Exploring the country.
  4. Marriage: Joining loved ones.

Types of Visas for Moving from Nigeria to Germany: For Nigerians, obtaining a visa is mandatory for entry into Germany, regardless of the purpose and duration of the stay. The main visa types include:

  1. Work Visa:
    • Blue Card: For those with a University degree and a job offer paying 58,400 euros or more. Conditions apply, including specific salary requirements for certain professions.
    • Academic & Non-Academic Job Seekers: Allows a six-month stay for job hunting. Academic seekers must have a degree.
  2. Study Visa:
    • For international students with confirmed admission to a German University or proof of sufficient funds.
  3. Family Reunion Visa:
    • For those moving due to marriage or to join family members.

How to Obtain a Residence Permit in Germany: A residence permit is essential for an extended stay in Germany. Required documents include a passport, biometric passport photo, filled application form, proof of living expenses coverage, and documents related to the purpose of entry (admission letter, employment letter, or marriage certificate).

Application Process for German Visa from Nigeria: Apply at the German consulate in Lagos or Abuja. A verification fee of ₦180,000 applies, except for residents in specified northern states, who pay ₦250,000.

Conclusion: For Nigerians, having a visa before entering Germany and obtaining a residence permit for an extended stay is crucial.

Safe travels and best of luck in your new endeavor in Germany!
