The Arewa United Front, a prominent socio-political group, has urgently appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action and reinstate Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. This plea follows the recent tragic Ibadan and Gwarinpa disasters that have befallen our nation.

Reflecting on the devastating explosion in the capital of Oyo state, Ibadan, claiming two lives and injuring over 70 people, preliminary investigations by security agencies have revealed a startling revelation. Illegal miners occupying a residential property in Bodija unlawfully stored explosive devices, resulting in the catastrophic blast.

In a statement by Iliya Dalhatu, the spokesperson for the Arewa United Front, during an interview in Kaduna, it was emphatically stated that the suspended minister, Hon. Betta Edu, has not violated any Nigerian laws. The group urges the prompt cessation of all investigations against her, allowing her to resume her ministerial duties without hindrance.

Moreover, the spokesperson highlights Minister Edu’s unwavering commitment and meticulous execution of her responsibilities, particularly in spearheading the National Social Intervention Programme. Due to her suspension, she has been unable to mobilize her team to provide necessary support and relief to those affected by the Ibadan blast.

The Arewa United Front firmly believes that the reinstatement of Minister Betta Edu is not only crucial but paramount for maintaining continuity and effectively addressing pressing humanitarian challenges in the country.

The group implores President Tinubu to intervene, urging relevant authorities responsible for the investigation to expedite proceedings and promptly release their findings. This will enable Minister Edu to resume her duties promptly and contribute her invaluable expertise to the nation’s betterment.

The Arewa United Front unequivocally supports the reinstatement of Minister Betta Edu, recognizing her exceptional contributions and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians. The group firmly stands behind her, urging President Tinubu to take swift action to rectify this situation and ensure Nigeria can effectively address its pressing humanitarian needs.
