On Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the N800bn 2024 budget that was signed into law by Rivers State Governor, Simi Fubara. In December, Governor Fubara presented the N800bn 2024 Appropriation Bill to a faction of the state House of Assembly, consisting of four lawmakers.
After the lawmakers passed the budget, Fubara proceeded to sign it into law. The factionalization of the Rivers Assembly occurred when 27 lawmakers, aligned with ex-governor Nyesom Wike, attempted to impeach Fubara.
The presiding judge, James Omotosho, declared that all actions taken by the four lawmakers were null and void. Additionally, the court acknowledged Martin Amaewhule as the speaker of the state assembly.
Further details will be provided later.
