As of Thursday, February 1, 2024, Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has departed FC Barcelona Femini to embark on a new journey with a team in the National Women’s Soccer League, Bay FC, situated in the United States. The confirmation of this transfer was announced by Barcelona Femini in an official statement.

As outlined in the statement, Oshoala, a prominent Nigerian star, was initially under contract with Barcelona Femini until June 30, 2024. However, she has now chosen to continue her football career in the United States as a player for Bay FC.

During her tenure as a Barcelona Femini player, Asisat Oshoala showcased remarkable goal-scoring prowess, accumulating a total of 117 goals over six seasons, comprising four full seasons and two half seasons. This achievement positions Oshoala as the fourth-highest goalscorer for the women’s professional team, trailing behind Alexia, Jenni Hermoso, and Sónia Bermúdez.

Oshoala joined Barcelona Femini during the winter transfer window in January 2019, making an immediate impact by scoring 8 goals in 11 games during that half-season. Her first full season (2019/20) saw an impressive tally of 30 goals in 22 games, followed by 22 goals in 37 games in the 2020/21 season and 22 goals in 28 games in the 2021/22 season.

The 2022/23 season marked her final full season with Barcelona, where she scored 27 goals in 40 games. In the ongoing 2023/24 season, Oshoala has added 8 goals in 14 games to her impressive record.

Oshoala leaves behind a lasting legacy at Barça, having secured 14 trophies, including 2 Champions Leagues, 4 Liga F titles, 3 Copa de la Reinas, 4 Spanish Super Cups, and 1 Catalan Cup as a blaugrana.

While the details of the actual transfer deal for the Africa Women’s Footballer of the Year were not explicitly stated, rumors suggest a fee of approximately €150,000 ($162,000).

Bay FC, gearing up for their debut in the NWSL’s 2024 season, will play home games at PayPal Park in San Jose, California, with their inaugural NWSL campaign set to kick off against Angel City on March 17.
