President Muhammadu Buhari has been called to heed to calls by eminent Nigerians for the restructuring of the country if secession can be averted.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Jonathan Vatsa, in a chat with Journalists in Minna, believed that the present system of a winner takes it all can not take Nigeria anywhere as a country, stressing that every region should go and contribute to the center.

The former Publicity Secretary of the APC in Niger state said the drum beats for Restructuring of the country is laud enough for the President Buhari to hear, adding that “as things are in the country today, I don’t think there is another alternative to restructuring of this country”.

Accordingly, he said “it is only restructuring that can bring the best out of every section of this country. This monthly sharing ceremony in Abuja can not help us as a country”.

Vatsa, a former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism also warned that the only alternative to restructuring is what the country should not pray for “because there is strength in togetherness. The country is gradually moving towards the red point of secession. So, I think the President should listen to the calls by some eminent Nigerians”.

“The growing agitations for self determination by some sections of this country is as a result of the growing injustice; lack of equity and fairness. How long will the government continue to suppress the people?

“There is nothing absolutely wrong with restructuring of this country, it will make us serious and bring out the best from every region of this country. Every region of this country has a potential except if we are not looking beyond our nose.

“If this country is restructured, certain wasteful decisions like the proposed construction of rail line from Nigeria to Niger Republic will not be contemplated when we have abandoned rail lines all over the country”.

He argued that the economic and political development in the country since 2015 is largely responsible for the growing calls for the restructuring of the country.

“The country has never been so divided as it is today since independence, all because of the high level of injustice and lack of FairPlay in all aspect of our lives as a nation.

“There is the general lack of trust among Nigerians; there is ethnic cleansing going on everywhere with perpetrators camouflaging as bandits and very worrisome; the lopsidedness in political appointments and so on. So the only thing left now is to restructure the country or secession may be inevitable.

“Let no section of this country be afraid of restructuring, except such region, like I said earlier can not see beyond its nose. If we run away from restructuring then we risk breakaway”.
