Nigerian transgender, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has landed in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bobrisky, a controversial figure celebrated for his flamboyant lifestyle and unconventional persona, was arrested on Wednesday evening, April 3, and has since been detained at the EFCC’s Lagos Command.
The transgender faced accusations related to the mishandling of Nigeria’s currency, specifically involving the abuse, spraying, and mutilation of naira notes.
Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson of the EFCC, confirmed Bobrisky’s arrest and detention during a conversation with PUNCH on Thursday.
The EFCC spokesperson affirmed that Bobrisky would be formally charged in court without delay, affirming the agency’s dedication to restoring the dignity of the naira and upholding the rule of law.
Oyewale said, “Bobrisky is with us. He was arrested last night in Lagos, and he is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of nara notes, and currency mutilation, among others.
“We are very serious about restoring the dignity of the naira. Though our investigation is still ongoing, but he will definitely be charged to court soon.”
