The Fitch Group x Social Shifters Global Education Challenge aims to empower young people, aged 18-30, to develop and expand ideas that promote free and high-quality education for all.
Focus Areas
The challenge is seeking innovative solutions that:
- Widen access to basic mathematics and literacy skills
- Promote financial inclusion through education
- Deliver education to remote and rural communities
- Eliminate gender disparities in education
The Education Crisis
Access to education is a fundamental human right that facilitates socio-economic mobility and provides a pathway out of poverty.
However, 244 million children and young people are currently out of school, and about 70% of 10-year-olds cannot understand simple written text.
The global education system is in crisis due to high rates of poverty, exclusion, and gender inequality, which continue to prevent millions from accessing education.
The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the disparities in education access and quality.
Additionally, violence, armed conflict, natural disasters, and the rollback of women’s rights have exacerbated insecurity and disrupted education.
It is crucial to rethink and redesign education systems to better serve the needs of children and young people worldwide.
