The ITET Gem Foundation is excited to announce the opening of applications for its 2024 Annual Essay Competition.

This year’s competition provides a platform for Nigeria’s youth to engage in meaningful discourse about the nation’s economic present and future.

It is an opportunity for young minds to influence Nigeria’s economic agenda by sharing innovative ideas and visionary solutions for the country’s economic challenges.

Competition Theme

The theme for this year’s competition is “Making Nigeria an Economic Powerhouse: My Ideas for Today and Vision for the Future.”

Participants are invited to write an essay between 500 and 750 words, detailing their perceptions of Nigeria’s current economic situation, their vision for a prosperous Nigeria, and practical solutions for overcoming economic challenges.

Additionally, participants should describe the role they are willing to play in realizing these ideas and visions.

Essay Requirements

  • Length: 500-750 words
  • Content:
    • Perception of Nigeria’s current economic realities
    • Vision for an economically vibrant Nigeria
    • Proposals for addressing economic challenges
    • Personal role in actualizing these ideas and visions

Prizes

  • First Prize: N150,000
  • Second Prize: N100,000
  • Third Prize: N50,000

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Nigerian citizen residing in Nigeria
  • Be under 18 years of age at the time of submission
  • Be reachable by phone (the phone number does not need to be owned by the applicant but should be a reliable contact)
  • Have access to an email account for submission purposes
  • Be a registered senior school 2 or 3 student in a recognized Senior Secondary School
  • Entries from public school students are particularly encouraged, though private school students are also eligible

How to Apply

To apply, submit an essay on the topic “Making Nigeria an Economic Powerhouse: My Ideas for Today and Vision for the Future.” Ensure your essay meets the length requirement and includes all the specified content elements.
