Millions Of Naira Down The Drain, FG Cries As Protesters Vandalize NCC Building In Kano

The Federal Government has expressed deep concern over the recent vandalization and looting of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) office in Kano State. The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, shared his disappointment, noting that millions of naira worth of infrastructure and resources have been lost due to the incident.

The unrest, initially a peaceful protest, turned destructive when hoodlums hijacked the situation. The NCC’s Digital Innovation Park, a key facility slated for launch next week, was significantly damaged. This park was intended to play a vital role in the federal government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, which aims to foster technical skills and innovation among Nigerian youth.

In addition to the 3MTT initiative, the damaged facility was also set to host the “buildathon holiday maker programme” for secondary school students. This programme was designed to provide students with hands-on experience in technology and innovation during their holiday break.

Minister Tijani lamented the setback, highlighting the broader implications for youth employment and technological advancement in Nigeria. “Sad to learn that our Digital Innovation Park in Kano, slated for launch next week to support our technical talent accelerator (3MTT), has been set ablaze and looted by protesters,” he stated. He emphasized that the destruction not only delayed the launch of crucial projects but also hindered the government’s efforts to create job opportunities for the youth.

The incident underscores the need for peaceful and constructive channels of expression, as the damage has resulted in a significant financial loss and disrupted plans to empower the next generation of technical talent in Nigeria. The government remains committed to rebuilding and continuing its mission to deepen the country’s technological workforce.
