Yobe State Imposes 24-Hour Curfew as Hoodlums Hijack Protest
In response to escalating violence and vandalism, the Yobe State Government has announced a 24-hour curfew for Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru areas. The move comes after hoodlums took advantage of a hardship protest to loot and damage government and private properties.
Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdussallam (retd), Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, confirmed the imposition of the curfew in a statement issued on Thursday. He highlighted that the curfew is a necessary measure to restore order and prevent further destruction.
“The Yobe State Government has considered the security situation in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru towns, where some individuals have exploited the protest to engage in vandalism and looting,” Abdussallam said. “To address this, we have imposed a 24-hour curfew. We urge the public to comply with this order and stay at home to ensure peace in these areas and throughout the state.”
Security agencies have been instructed to enforce the curfew and ensure full compliance. The government’s decision aims to curb further unrest and protect both public and private properties from further damage.
