A tragic incident occurred in the Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where a businessman was allegedly killed by a stray bullet. The incident happened during a protest that turned violent, as demonstrators blocked a federal highway leading into Yauri town.
According to sources, including Malam Umar Bako Yelwa, the unrest escalated when marine police intervened to disperse the protesters. While attempting to control the situation, a stray bullet fired by the marine police hit and killed the businessman in his shop, where he sold plastic goods. The victim’s identity has yet to be confirmed.
Attempts to reach the Kebbi State Police Command for a statement were unsuccessful. The police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, did not respond to calls or text messages seeking comment on the incident.
Despite the unrest in Yauri, the situation in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, remains calm following the protests. The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to maintain peace and order in the region.
