The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has launched a user-friendly self-service portal in 2025, allowing Nigerians to register for their National Identification Number (NIN) and manage their identity records completely online.

This innovation is designed to eliminate long queues at enrollment centres and bring convenience directly to citizens through their mobile devices and computers.

NIMC Registration Portal

The new portal is accessible via https://selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng/, and it provides a simple and guided registration process.

Once you click on “Register,” you’ll be taken through easy-to-follow steps. The system is built to help users of all levels complete their NIN registration quickly and without confusion.

What You Need to Register

Before beginning your NIN registration on the self-service portal, make sure you have the following:

  • A Valid Email Address: You’ll need this to create your account and receive updates or alerts from NIMC.

  • A Government-Issued ID: Upload a clear scan or photo of a valid ID like your voter’s card, passport, or driver’s license.

  • A Bright, Well-Lit Space: You’ll be required to take a live photo during the process. Make sure you’re in a well-lit room to ensure a smooth facial capture.

Log-In and Verifying Your NIN

Once registration is complete, simply log in using the email and password you set up.

You’ll be prompted to verify your NIN by entering your unique 11-digit number. For added security, the system will also request a facial capture every time you log in—this ensures that only you can access your profile.

✅ Pro Tip: Always ensure your face is clearly visible in a bright environment when logging in to avoid failed verification.

NIN Management Made Easy

The NIMC self-service portal offers many functions other than just registration.

Users can leverage the platform to:

Change Personal Information: You may update information such as your name, address, phone number, or email address directly on the platform. This will eliminate the need for you to visit an enrollment center for minor changes and also speed up the process.

Correct Errors: Did you notice any errors in your NIN details during registration or data transfer? You can flag these errors and initiate correction processes conveniently through the self-service portal.

Schedule Appointments: Although the majority of changes can be done through the portal, there are a few cases that might require you to come to an enrollment center. The self-service portal allows users to schedule their own appointments at their preferred centers, which gives them a more comfortable and efficient experience when they visit in person.

Download NIN Slip: Do you require a hard copy of your NIN for verification purposes? On the portal, you can conveniently download your NIN slip and avoid having to request a reprint at an enrollment center.

Important Notes

  • The platform is still being improved, so some features may change over time.

  • For the most reliable updates, visit the official NIMC website.
