Are you planning to apply for the FG TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) program as a student trainee? Great! But hold on, we’ve noticed that many applicants are submitting their applications through the wrong portal. If you’re applying under the Student Trainee category, using the Trainer’s Portal will automatically disqualify you.

To help you avoid common mistakes and increase your chances of being accepted, we’ve created this step-by-step guide on how to apply for FG TVET as a Student Trainee. Let’s walk you through the 5 key steps to submit your application successfully.

Step 1: Use the Correct Portal

If you’re applying as a student trainee, only apply through the official portal:
Do not use the Trainers’ Portal — it’s meant for facilitators, not trainees.

Step 2: Choose Your Preferred Training Track

Carefully review the available training tracks listed on the site. Decide which course you’re passionate about and willing to commit to — this will be your skill path.

Step 3: Begin Your Application

Click “Apply” and begin your application by entering your NIN (National Identification Number) and Date of Birth.
Once verified, proceed to complete the sign-up process and create your profile.

Step 4: Provide Bank Account Details Carefully

You’ll be asked to submit your bank account number.

  • If your phone number is also your bank account number (like with some mobile money accounts), remove the first zero of the phone number to enable proper BVN verification.
Example: If your number is 08012345678, enter it as 8012345678.

Step 5: Select the Right Training Duration

Choose the training length based on your skill level:

  •  Beginner – Select 6 months

  • Some Experience – Select 1 year

Pick wisely based on your familiarity with the course you chose.

Additional Tips

Phone Number Update for OTP
If you no longer have access to the phone number linked to your NIN, don’t panic.
After NIN verification, you can:

  • Delete the old number

  • Replace it with a new phone number that is linked with your NIN

  • This is important to ensure you receive your OTP successfully

Also, make sure:

  • Your phone has enough storage space

  • Your network signal is strong

  • Your SMS inbox is not full

Don’t let a small mistake cost you this opportunity! Follow these simple but important steps to ensure your FG TVET application is successful.
If you found this helpful, share it with others applying as student trainees — let’s all grow together!
