GoldenNewsNg reports that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has officially opened applications for its 2025/2026 Local Master’s Postgraduate Scholarship Programme, inviting qualified indigenes of the Niger Delta region to apply.

The scholarship supports Master’s degree studies in accredited Nigerian universities across key fields relevant to regional and national development. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the NDDC website for detailed eligibility requirements and application guidelines.

The initiative, which is part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to boost human resource development in the region, aims to equip young graduates with critical knowledge and skills across priority sectors. The scholarship supports studies in Nigerian universities and is aligned with the Federal Government’s local content development strategy.

NDDC Local Master’s Postgraduate Scholarship

Programme Overview

The scholarship is designed for Master’s degree programs and covers a broad range of disciplines vital to national development. The eligible fields of study include:

  • Agricultural Sciences

  • Architecture

  • Engineering

  • Environmental Sciences

  • Geosciences

  • Humanities

  • Information Technology

  • Law

  • Management and Social Sciences

  • Medical Sciences

According to NDDC, this opportunity empowers the region’s youth to become competitive both locally and globally through academic excellence and professional advancement.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be indigenes of the Niger Delta region

  • Be not more than 40 years old

  • Hold a First Class, Second Class Upper, or Second Class Lower degree

  • Candidates with HND (Upper Credit) and a PGD are also eligible

  • Have gained admission into a recognized Nigerian university for a postgraduate programme

Selection Process

The selection process includes several stages:

  1. Online Application – Candidates must apply through the NDDC website: www.nddc.gov.ng

  2. Preliminary Shortlisting – Based on academic credentials and local government identification.

  3. Computer-Based Test (CBT) – Shortlisted applicants will write a CBT at centers in Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Rivers states. Candidates must score at least 70%.

  4. Oral Interview – Applicants who pass the CBT will proceed to an oral interview stage.

  5. Final Verification – This includes verification with the respective Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Community Development Committees (CDCs).

Application Procedure

Applicants must upload the following documents during online registration:

  • Recent passport photograph

  • Local Government Identification Letter

  • Postgraduate admission letter from a recognized Nigerian university

  • Relevant degree certificates

  • NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate

Upon successful submission, an application number will be generated. Applicants are advised to print a copy of the acknowledgment slip for future reference.

 

Important Notes

  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted at each stage of the process.

  • Preference will be given to candidates from oil-producing host communities and local government areas, provided they meet the minimum test score.

  • Candidates are not allowed to defer, change institutions, or alter courses after selection.

  • The NDDC reserves the right to make final decisions regarding the selection of candidates.

Residents of a Lagos estate were left in shock on Thursday night after a young woman, Deborah Porsche, popularly known as Debporsche, was allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend, identified simply as Lintex, nearly a year after their breakup. According to reports, Lintex had repeatedly threatened Deborah since their split in August 2024, allegedly vowing: “If I don’t have you, nobody will. If I no marry you, blood go flow.” Deborah’s sister described her as a hardworking interior decorator who had just completed her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). She further alleged that the deceased endured emotional abuse throughout her relationship with Lintex, which ultimately pushed her to walk away. On the night of the attack, the suspect disguised himself as a dispatch rider in an attempt to infiltrate the estate. Security guards reportedly stopped him at the gate, but he scaled the fence and gained entry to Deborah’s apartment. Eyewitnesses said Lintex first tampered with the gas cylinder line outside the apartment, allegedly trying to cause an explosion. When that failed, he forced his way inside and stabbed Deborah multiple times with a knife he brought along. Alarmed neighbours rushed to the scene and alerted the police. The suspect was subdued and handed over to law enforcement officers. Police authorities have confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing. Deborah’s tragic death has sparked outrage online and renewed calls for stronger legal protections for women against abusive and obsessive partners.
