Atiku, David Mark, Lamido, Tambuwal, and Others have dumped PDP for ADC to Battle Tinubu in 2027

GoldenNewsNg reports that in a major political shake-up ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido have reportedly left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to align with a new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

A group of high-profile politicians have left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and teamed up under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a new coalition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Leading the group is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, along with former Senate President David Mark, ex-Governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), among others.

Why They Left PDP

In a meeting held in Abuja, the politicians said they were unhappy with the state of the PDP, calling it weak and no longer able to serve as a credible opposition. They also criticised the APC government under President Bola Tinubu, saying the country is in worse shape than it was before.

“The PDP is now a shadow of its former self. Most of its elected officials have either left the party or gone silent,” part of the communique read.

They described the APC-led government as a failure, blaming it for hardship, insecurity, and poor governance across the country.

Who Are the New Leaders?

To lead the new coalition, David Mark was named the interim national chairman of ADC, while former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola was appointed interim secretary.

The group said they adopted the ADC instead of starting a new party because it already has nationwide presence and legal standing with INEC.

Full List of Key Politicians Who Moved from PDP to ADC:

  • Atiku Abubakar

  • David Mark

  • Sule Lamido

  • Aminu Tambuwal

  • Babangida Aliyu

  • Liyel Imoke

  • Sam Egwu

More names are expected to join the movement in the coming weeks.

What’s Next?

This development is one of the biggest political shakeups ahead of the 2027 elections. It shows that key players in the opposition are now trying to unite under one umbrella. Whether this coalition will last remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the race to 2027 has already started.
