Peter Obi has responded to reports circulating that he will be Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

GoldenNewsNg reports that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and prominent opposition figure, has confirmed his intention to run for President in 2027, firmly debunking rumours that he would serve as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This online news platform understands that there have been rumours of Obi, who was Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 election, running again as VP candidate with the former Vice President in the 2027 election.

Reacting to the rumour, Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, said on the Sunday Politics programme on Channels Television, “I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it.”

When asked whether he was considering becoming the running mate to Atiku in the 2027 election, the former Anambra Governor said, “This is not in play; nobody has ever discussed that. People assume so many things. Nobody has ever discussed with me whether I am going to be A or B or C.”

Obi maintained that he remains a vibrant member of the Labour Party, though he supports the coalition, which recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to unseat President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is eyeing a second term of four years in office in 2027.

“I am part of the coalition which will be able to produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country,” he said.
