Jigawa: Suspect in Killing of NSCDC Officer Dies After Falling From Moving Vehicle
Jigawa State, August 10, 2025 – A 45-year-old man arrested over the killing of Superintendent Bashir Adamu-Jibril of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died after jumping from a moving vehicle while in custody.
NSCDC spokesman in Jigawa State, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, confirmed the incident on Friday, stating that the suspect, linked to the brutal murder of the officer, fell from the vehicle while being transported to the command headquarters.
Adamu-Jibril, who served in the Department of Intelligence and Investigation, was killed on Wednesday, August 6, at Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area. He was reportedly attacked with a machete by suspected butchers, suffering a deep head wound.
Tijjani said the suspect was apprehended on Thursday, August 7, following credible intelligence.
“While being taken to the command headquarters at high speed, he somehow freed himself from the handcuffs and leapt from the moving vehicle in an attempt to escape. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Dutse General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead,” the spokesman said.
The NSCDC vowed to ensure justice for the late officer and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.
This incident comes amid a series of deadly attacks on security personnel. In Kaduna earlier this year, seven NSCDC officers were killed by armed bandits at a mining site, prompting the Corps to order all its offices nationwide to fly flags at half-mast in their honour.
