First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment as a driver of national development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Speaking in Lagos at the official flag-off of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in the South-West, she disclosed that 1,000 women benefited from the programme, which is aimed at lifting 18,500 women nationwide out of poverty.

According to her, 500 pre-selected women from Lagos and other South-West states received empowerment items including deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, power generators, and industrial grinding machines, while Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu further supported the initiative with an additional 500 items for Lagos women.

“These resources are meant to equip women with the tools they need to build sustainable businesses and create better lives for their families. I encourage beneficiaries to use them judiciously,” the First Lady said.

She explained that the Renewed Hope Initiative is designed to complement President Tinubu’s agenda of inclusive growth, gender equality, and economic transformation.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, praised the initiative as a bold step toward unlocking women’s potential and promoting economic independence.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks, described the programme as historic, noting that empowering women strengthens families, communities, and the nation at large.

“This empowerment is more than distribution of items; it is sowing seeds that will grow into forests of possibilities,” he said.
