The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported that over 2.6 million Nigerians have enrolled for online and in-person voter registration in just two weeks. The commission described this as a positive sign of growing citizen engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Upcoming 2025 Elections

The upcoming elections are expected to be one of the most closely watched in Nigeria’s democratic history, with citizens voting for federal, state, and local government representatives. INEC emphasized that registration is mandatory for all eligible voters who wish to participate.

How to Register for Your Voter Card Online

INEC has made online registration accessible to Nigerians across the country. Here’s how to register for your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) online:

  1. Visit the official INEC voter registration portal. ( https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/)

  2. Complete the online registration form with accurate personal details.

  3. Schedule an appointment at your nearest INEC office to verify your information and collect your PVC.

  4. Ensure all documents are correct to avoid delays or rejection.

In-Person Registration

For those who prefer traditional registration, citizens can visit designated INEC registration centers across their states. Staff at the centers are available to assist applicants and answer questions about the registration process.

Why Voter Registration is Important

INEC highlighted that registering to vote is both a right and a civic responsibility. By registering, citizens can:

  • Participate in elections that shape the nation’s future.

  • Hold elected officials accountable.

  • Influence policies that directly impact their communities.

The commission also called on community leaders, youth groups, and civil society organizations to encourage eligible citizens to register, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to vote in 2025.
