The Sokoto State Government has announced plans to recruit 3,000 workers into its civil service.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu disclosed this on Wednesday while inaugurating a recruitment committee, noting that the initiative is aimed at tackling unemployment, youth restiveness, and the shortage of skilled manpower in the state.
He explained that the exercise will cut across all 23 local government areas, with priority given to unemployed graduates holding NCE, HND, or degree qualifications.
“The focus is to fill existing vacancies in critical sectors where manpower is needed,” the governor said, urging the committee to ensure fairness, transparency, and diligence in the recruitment process.
Aliyu emphasized his administration’s commitment to empowering young people through jobs and skill acquisition. He warned against the rising trend of youths serving as “informants” for criminals due to joblessness, stressing that creating employment opportunities was a key strategy to curb the menace.
Since assuming office, the governor said, thousands of youths and women have already benefited from various empowerment schemes, including training in trades such as plumbing, electrical work, tailoring, and small-scale businesses, alongside starter packs and tools to begin work.
Committee chairman Alhaji Jelani Kalgo, a retired senior administrator, praised the governor’s initiative and assured that the recruitment would be handled strictly in line with laid down guidelines.
