Trending Nigeria News Today, Sunday, October 5, 2025 — Stay informed with GoldenNewsNG’s roundup of the latest headlines in Nigeria, spanning politics, economy, recruitment, governance, security, and entertainment. From the Dangote refinery update to Goodluck Jonathan’s possible return to politics, here are the top stories making waves across the nation.

Dangote To Redeploy Sacked Refinery Engineers To Sugar, Cement Plants

Sources within the Dangote Group have revealed that the company plans to redeploy refinery engineers who were dismissed for joining the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) to its sugar and cement divisions.

According to insiders, the company also intends to hire new engineers to fill the vacant positions left at the refinery.

One of the sources described the redeployment as a significant loss to the company, noting that the affected engineers played key roles in refinery operations.

It was further learned that a portion of the affected staff out of the reported 800  may be reassigned to other Dangote Group operations outside Nigeria.

16 military officers face trial over breach of regulations, indiscipline

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has confirmed the arrest of 16 military officers for acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, following an internal exercise designed to strengthen professionalism and discipline within its ranks.

In a statement released on Saturday, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, said preliminary investigations indicated that the misconduct stemmed mainly from grievances related to career stagnation and repeated failures in promotion exams, among other internal service issues.

He explained that some of the officers were already facing disciplinary actions, while others are currently awaiting or undergoing trial.

Gusau added that once investigations are concluded, those found guilty will face appropriate sanctions in line with the Armed Forces’ disciplinary framework.

“The Armed Forces assures the public that these measures are purely disciplinary and part of ongoing efforts to uphold order, integrity, and professionalism within the military,” the statement read.

Tinubu Ignored Suffering Nigerians, Attended Political Funeral In Plateau – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has berated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for attending the funeral of Nana Lydia Yilwatda, mother of APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, in Plateau State.

Atiku described Tinubu’s presence at the event in Jos as an “insensitive act,” alleging that the President ignored citizens mourning recent terrorist attacks in the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Atiku said Tinubu’s decision to attend a “social event” instead of consoling victims of insecurity showed a lack of empathy and disconnect from ordinary Nigerians.

He accused the APC-led government of celebrating with political elites while citizens continue to live in fear and hardship.

I Never Linked Buhari To Boko Haram – Jonathan Clarifies

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed reports claiming he accused the late former President Muhammadu Buhari of being linked to Boko Haram.

Jonathan, in a statement released on Saturday by his media aide Ikechukwu Eze, said his remarks at the launch of “Scars”, a book by former Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Lucky Irabor (rtd), were “misrepresented by the media.”

He explained that his comments were meant to highlight how Boko Haram insurgents often used the names of respected public figures to create division and confusion, not to implicate Buhari or anyone else.

Jonathan urged the public to disregard the misleading interpretations circulating online.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan Reportedly Considering ADC Platform Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly weighing the option of joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the party’s coalition of opposition forces continues to expand and hold high-level consultations with key political stakeholders across the country.

According to multiple members of the ADC National Working Committee (NWC), Jonathan has been in discussions about possibly aligning with the party, though no final decision has been made.

Recent reports have suggested that the former president may challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. While Jonathan has yet to issue an official statement on his political plans, several Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders have been urging him to contest under their platform.

Meanwhile, opinions among Nigerians remain divided, with some encouraging him to run, possibly under a new party, while others caution against his return to the race.

The debate also touches on constitutional concerns, as the 2018 amendment bars anyone who has been sworn in twice as president or governor from seeking election again, raising questions about Jonathan’s eligibility should he decide to contest.

Stop Spreading Malicious Lies About Nigeria – Onanuga Warns U.S. Senator Ted Cruz

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has cautioned U.S. Senator Ted Cruz against spreading “false and malicious” claims about religious persecution in Nigeria.

Senator Cruz had alleged that Nigerian officials were ignoring and even aiding attacks on Christians, while pushing for sanctions through his “Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act.”

In a post on his 𝕏 (Twitter) handle, Onanuga dismissed the senator’s claims, warning him not to tarnish Nigeria’s image with baseless accusations.

I Inherited Islam, But My Wife Is A Pastor – Tinubu Preaches Religious Tolerance

President Bola Tinubu has called for unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, emphasizing that religion should never be a source of division within the country.

Speaking in Jos at the burial of Nana Lydia Yilwatda, Tinubu used his own family as an example of religious tolerance, noting that although he is a Muslim, his wife is a pastor, and they live in harmony.

He urged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic and religious lines and promote peace across the country.

The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described his late mother as a “devoted woman who lived a life of service and love.”

Omisore Declares Intention To Run For Osun Governorship In 2026

Former Osun State Deputy Governor and APC chieftain, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has announced his intention to contest the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Omisore disclosed this in a post on 𝕏, revealing that his formal declaration will hold on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the APC Secretariat in Osogbo.

Tagged “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams,” his campaign will focus on restoring hope, strengthening governance, and improving the welfare of Osun citizens.

Omisore previously served as Deputy Governor (1999–2003) and Senator (2003–2011). He joined the APC in 2021 and became the party’s National Secretary a year later.

Tunde Bakare Reveals Pressure to Join ADC, Declines Offer

The founder of Citadel Global Community Church, Dr. Tunde Bakare, has revealed that he is under pressure from some political stakeholders to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking on Saturday during the maiden edition of the Citadel School of Governance Dialogue Series, themed “Nigeria at 65: Historical Reflections, Futuristic Projection”, held in Oregun, Lagos, Bakare confirmed that several influential figures had approached him about aligning with the ADC.

He disclosed that among those urging him to join were a former governor and a former minister from the South-West, but made it clear that he has no plans to join the party at this time.

Igbo Properties Demolition: Our Hearts Are Bleeding – Benjamin Kalu Appeals To Tinubu

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has appealed to President Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing demolition of properties belonging to Igbos in Lagos State.

Speaking during a project commissioning event in Aba, Abia State, Kalu said the demolitions were causing “emotional and financial pain” to many Igbo families.

He, however, commended Tinubu for increasing state funding through subsidy removal reforms and called for the establishment of a seaport in the South-East to boost regional trade and development.

Military Arrests 16 Officers For Indiscipline, Misconduct

The Nigerian Military has confirmed the arrest of 16 officers for acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations.

Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that most of the affected officers had grievances related to career progression and failed promotion exams.

Gusau said the officers are currently facing trials in line with the Armed Forces Act, adding that their actions were inconsistent with military professionalism.

Police Reacts To Court Ruling On Tinted Glass Permit

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says it has not yet received the court order restraining it from enforcing the tinted-glass permit.

Force PRO CSP Benjamin Hundeyin made this known on Saturday following reports that a Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, had halted the enforcement.

The court, in the case John Aikpokpo-Martins v. IGP & NPF, directed the police to maintain the status quo pending determination of the substantive suit.

Hundeyin said the police would respond appropriately once the order is officially served.

I Also Feel The Hardship Nigerians Are Facing – Seyi Law

Comedian Seyi Law has expressed empathy for Nigerians struggling with economic hardship and rising inflation.

Speaking on Inside The Box Podcast, the comedian admitted that even he is feeling the pinch of the tough economy, especially with the cost of converting naira to pounds for his family abroad.

He urged the government to acknowledge citizens’ suffering and communicate reform goals more clearly to restore public trust.

Seyi Law noted that while the current administration’s reforms may yield long-term benefits, the present reality is “undeniably painful.”

God Didn’t Ordain Us To Be Together – Tolu Odukoya Opens Up On Failed Marriage

Toluwani Odukoya, Associate Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, has spoken publicly for the first time about her failed marriage.

In an emotional interview on her YouTube channel, the 40-year-old daughter of late Pastor Taiwo Odukoya described her separation as “a death-like experience” that was beyond her control.

She said she believes not every marriage is divinely ordained, adding that forcing what isn’t meant to be only leads to pain.

Despite the heartbreak, Tolu expressed respect for her ex-husband and urged others not to see separation as failure but as “a step toward peace and purpose.
