The legal counsel to Ibrahim Magu, the former acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Tosin Ojaomo has expressed shock over the appointment of a new Chairman.
Recall that Golden News NG earlier published that President Muhammadu Buhari had nominated 40-year-old AbdulRasheed Bawa as the new EFCC Chairman. President Buhari had written a letter to Senate President Ahmed Lawan for the approval of this appointment.
Ojaomo has said that the appointment came as a shock to him because there’s still a pending assignment. According to him, the corruption case against Magu which was levelled against him in July, 2020 was still pending.
He made this known while speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday night, February 16.
In his words;
“Sincerely I need to tell you that this appointment came to me as a shock. There is still an unfinished assignment that was pending. I was expecting that the issue of Magu would have been sorted out before moving to another stage,
“Unfortunately, we just got this news today that a new Chairman has been nominated by the President and his name has been forwarded to the Senate.”
Speaking further on justice, he added that Magu was suspended and is still under investigation because the allegations haven’t been proven against him. He stressed that the report on the issue was supposed to have been made but there was no report but an appointment.
“It is obvious that when you talk of justice, you know what justice is all about. Somebody was suspended to be investigated, waiting for the report on the same issue. As an acting Chairman of the commission, he was suspended for an allegation that has not been proven against him.
“At the end of the day, the report which everybody was expecting to know whether the man has been found wanting or not, suddenly no report came out and another appointment was made.”
