Bashir Mohammed, an Economic and financial Crimes Commission witness who created claims of giving former President Olusegun Obasanjo the naira equivalent of $140,000 allegedly contradicted himself in court on Wednesday November thirteen.

In the statement that was admitted by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, Bashir said to be the primary prosecution witness within the trial of Abdulahi Babalele (son-in-law of former vice president Atiku Abubakar) contradicted his earlier statement of giving the money to Obasanjo in person by saying that he gave the money to “one man” whose identity he didn’t recognize.

At the commencement of trial on Wednesday, the defence counsel Chief mike Ozekhome (SAN) told the witness to read one of the additional judicial statements created to the EFCC on March eleven.

Bashir read out loud: “I collected the dollars cash from Dan Asabe and that i known as Abdullahi and he told me to take the cash to Ogun State to Obasanjo’s library.”

“When I got to the library, I met a person who asked if i’m Bashir and that i said yes. He asked: where is the message from Abdullahi? and that i gave him the money. I don’t know the name of the person I gave the money however I will identify the office. “

Ozekhome argued that the witness contradicted his proof on Monday November 11.

He said: “Yesterday, you aforementioned you gave Obasanjo $140,000 in person in his house, however during this your statement these days, you wrote that you just gave the money to a person in the library that you just don’t even recognize his name.

“You told the court yesterday that you just modified N50,400,000 that was transferred to you however in your statement we’ve seen N53million and N52.5million that was transferred to you. “

The case during which Babalele was suspect of laundering $140,000 within the build-up to the 2019 general elections was adjourned to Jan twenty nine for additional proceedings.
