Fear Grips Edo Residents As Kidnappers Abduct DPO, Make Huge Demand
GoldenNewsNg gathered that there has been apprehension in Edo state following the abduction of Ibrahim Ishaq, the divisional police officer in charge of Etsako central local government area of the state.
The Punch reports that Ishaq was abducted near Ise River along the old Auchi-Ekperi-Agenebode Road on Friday, November 26.
Sources privy to the incident said the DPO was driving in his personal car when some gunmen ambushed him while shooting indiscriminately into the air.
Following the shooting, the DPO was forced to stop his care and he was immediately whisked away into the bush by the gunmen.
Vanguard also reports that the incident has caused fear to envelop communities in Edo state especially among people of Fugar, the headquarters of Estako central LGA.
A resident who spoke on the incident said there seems to be much fear in the area as the Edo DPO was kidnapped a few weeks before the annual Fugar day festival.
The festival always comes up during the Christmas period in the local government area.
The resident who spoke on anonymity said:
“If a DPO can be abducted, who is safe? This incident is causing panic among the people because of the Fugar Day Festival which comes up during Christmas. “
Kidnapper demanding N50 million before releasing the DPO
He added that the abductors of the DPO have since made contact with some close associates and family members are demanding N50 million as a ransom for the release of Ishaq.
The resident said:
“I also heard from people close to the family that his abductors have demanded N50m as ransom.’’
Reacting to the incident, the police commissioner in the state, Philip Ogbadu, has ordered officers of the anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit of the force to the area of the crime.
The team alongside men of the tactical and strike unit have been given the directive to comb the area and rescue the DPO safely.
Okorocha Challenges IGP to Investigate him Over Insecurity In Imo
Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo State, has thrown an open challenge to the Inspector General of Police to investigate him on allegations that he (Okorocha) is sponsoring insecurity in the state.
Okorocha’s open challenge is sequel to the accusation levelled against him by his successor, Hope Uzodinma.
