2023: Jonathan in closed door meeting with IBB, Abdulsalami

Former Nigeria President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has cautioned Nigerians on the need not to vote in anyone that would compromise the interest of Nigeria for their personal aggrandisements.

Speaking shortly after a closed door meeting with General Abdulsalami Abubakar, the former President told journalists that the country needs a leader who has the interest of the country at heart.

Dr Jonathan who arrived the uphill residence of former military Head of state General Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna, at exactly 2pm on Thursday spoke on the build up towards the 2023 general elections.

He disclosed that Nigerians also need a leader who would carry all Nigerians along and see the country as his project by ensuring that it moves towards the path of growth and development.

In his words, “we all wish our country well especially for the young people, elections are coming and you have to elect the person you can trust. A leader that can serve us well.

“We need a leader who is also a servant that will take the interest of all of us, a leader that would not compromise the interest of the country for his personal aggrandisement.

“A leader that would carry all of us along, especially someone that will take Nigeria as a project”.

Speaking earlier the purpose of his visit, the former President said,” it has been almost a year since I came to Niger state. I am the most junior amongst the former Presidents and I do go round to visit them.

“I have not seen Abdulsalami for quite sometime, you know he just came back from abroad where he went for medical treatment.

“It is only proper to come with some of my friends to greet him and I want to also see General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. There is nothing special about the visit it is a regular visit that I normally do”.

Furthermore, Dr Jonathan explained that Nigeria needs General Abdulsalami especially now that the 2023 elections are at hand in order to contribute his quota in ensuring a peaceful, free and fair elections.

In his words, “we need him especially as the former chairman National Peace Committee. He ensured a peaceful election and as we approach elections again, there is so much pressure on him to see how we can conduct our elections freely, fairly in an environment that is peaceful.

He also visited and had a closed door meeting with General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
