The Peoples Democratic Party PDP through its national chairman Prince Uche Secundus has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign immediately following the spate of insecurity in the country.

The former speaker of the House of Representative Yakubu Dogara has defected back to his former Party the All Progressives Congress. Dogara went to visit president Buhari in Abuja to notify him of his defection from the opposition PDP.
He went in company of an APC stalwart who led him to President Buhari The APC also warned the PDP that more of their members will decamp to the ruling party in the coming days as their reconciliation methods are yielding positive results with the return of Dogara to the APC.
There are no indication that resident Buhari who is on a visit to Mali to address the political unrest there will be taking the call any seriously. Many people in the ruling party also do not feel that the call for Buhari’s resignation will have any impact on the country’s politics.
However, the forthcoming 2023 general elections as started influencing political developments in the country. Politicians have been aligning with various interest groups ahead of the election. From previous elections years, politicking often starts long before the year of election.
2021 will define a lot about how politics will be done in Nigeria but some politicians cannot wait until then. They have already started making moves towards securing their positions and interest ahead of the election.
The opposition PDP has also been displaying strategies ahead of the elections and its latest call for Buhari to resign has been interpreted as a political move. Their opposition failed to stop President Buhari’s victory in 2019 and the call for his resignation will not work out too.
