The Nigeria Football Federation has stated that the Nigerian Super Eagles can accomplish more than Morocco did at the World Cup in Qatar.
Goldennewsng reports that Morocco became the first African nation to reach a World Cup semi-final.
Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, stated that the Super Eagles can do better in response to the accomplishment.
The Atlas Lions are the only African nation left in the tournament, and they are also in the Semifinals. The North Africans led Group F with seven points after defeating Canada, Belgium, and playing a draw with them.
They also beat Spain and Portugal in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, respectively, to become the first African nation to reach the semis of the world’s most prestigious football tournament.
The team led by Walid Regragui also has the best defensive record at the tournament, allowing just one goal in five games and going up against the defending champions, France, on Wednesday.
The Eagles have never advanced past the round of 16—their best performances came at USA 94 and France 98—in contrast to Morocco’s accomplishment at the World Cup.
Sanusi stated that he was confident that Nigeria could perform better than Morocco at the World Cups with a thriving atmosphere in his remarks following the inauguration on Monday of the Players Unions’ reconciliation committee, a five-man panel to fully restore peace to the ranks of Nigeria’s retired and active football players.
“At the current FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar, Morocco has performed exceptionally well for Africa. Sanusi stated, “If we have a peaceful atmosphere in which all stakeholders work toward a common, noble goal, Nigeria is capable of doing similarly and even better.”
