This seems like a Big blow for PDP as INEC removes Imo PDP candidate from House of Reps election List.

GoldenNewsNg gathered that Albert Agulanna, the People’s Democratic Party’s candidate for the federal constituency of Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala in Imo state, has been removed from the list of House of Representatives candidates for the February 25 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The withdrawal followed the court order by the Appeal Court in January.

Our correspondent checked the INEC website on Wednesday and found that, per a court order, the electoral body did not include the party’s name as a candidate.

“Court order” was added as one of the reasons for the withdrawal by the electoral commission.

Albert Agulanna, the PDP’s candidate for the state’s federal constituency, was fired by a Federal High Court in Abuja in January.

In its decision, the court also said that a new primary should be held in the constituency within 14 days. However, the INEC and the PDP were prevented from holding a rerun of the primary election for the state’s federal constituency of Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala by an Appeal Court in Owerri.

Prior to this, INEC had said it did not monitor the re-run primaries of the PDP in that constituency.

Dr. Chinenye Osuji, the state’s Public Relations Officer for INEC, told journalists in Owerri on Monday about the commission’s absence.

Osuji stated, “It is a futile effort for any political party to conduct its primaries without INEC.” To keep an eye on the exercise, INEC must be present.

“They know what they have done if PDP decides to hold the rerun primaries for Aboh Mbaise-Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency without INEC’s involvement. As a result, we cannot say.

In the meantime, Agulanna has appealed the Supreme Court’s decision from the appellate court.

The supreme court resumed hearing the case on Tuesday and, after adopting procedures, adjourned it until March 3 for a decision.
