The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been ranked 13th most expensive national team in the world according to transfermarkt rankings.
Before the latest ranking from the transfer market platform, the Super Eagles of Nigeria were ranked 15th in the world in terms of the transfer market value of the team’s players. This means that Nigeria has moved two steps upward in the ranking.
Based on the latest ranking, the Super Eagles, three times Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) champions, have retained their spot as the most valuable national team in Africa.
It is recalled that the total value of the Super Eagles of Nigeria was €301 million in February 2023. But that has improved to €338.50 million thanks to the fact that most of the team’s players are now plying their trades in some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
How Nigeria’s players contributed to the value of the Super Eagles
Several Super Eagles players’ market value significantly rose as a result of their recent triumphs for their various clubs.
Victor Osimhen, a forward for Napoli, has the highest value of all of them and experienced the most growth between January and March.
He is now the most valued player in Nigerian history thanks to a large €30 million increase in market value as a result of his superb performance so far this season. His market value is now €100 million.
Wilfred Ndidi, a midfielder for Leicester City, had his worth decline once more as he continues to struggle with injuries. However, he still holds the second-place spot on the team despite having a worth that has dropped from €60 million to €38 million.
Ademola Lookman of Atalanta, who is currently having a good season, is another player who helped the Eagles’ market value rise. After an outstanding debut season with the Italian club, Lookman’s value increased from €20 million to €30 million
Alex Iwobi, a forward for Everton, kept his €25 million price tag and remained the fourth most expensive player for the Eagles.
While Terem Moffi, Joe Aribo, and Calvin Bassey all contributed to the increase in the team’s value with a collective value of €72m, Samuel Chukwueze’s market value remained at €20m.
Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye’s worth has increased since he reached his first million in his career, going from €900,000 to €1 million, despite seeing limited action since joining Watford. The goalie is now worth €2.5 million.
Emmanuel Dennis of Nottingham Forest suffered a €5 million reduction in market worth. His initial market worth was €15 million, while his current value is €10 million.
Top Five most valuable teams in Africa
While the Super Eagles of Nigeria take the first spot, Morocco which were the third most valuable African team, have moved upward thanks to their outstanding performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. They are now ranked second in Africa and 14th overall with a team worth €306.85 million.
With a market value of €251.03m, Ivory Coast is ranked third in Africa and 22nd overall, while Ghana is ranked fourth in Africa and 24th overall.
Once ranked first in Africa, Senegal is now ranked 27th in the world and fifth in Africa in terms of the value of the national team
